Demands connectivity to Kathua, Billawar, Basholi, Bani, and Bhaderwah with main railway line in Kathua
Urges LG Sinha to take up project with Minister for Railways, GoI for approval of Phase-I and II in first phase
Jammu: MLA Jasrota, Rajiv Jasrotia, today called on Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha at Raj Bhavan in Jammu. During the meeting, Jasrotia presented demands for the Jasrota constituency, highlighting key issues and concerns affecting the area.He discussed various matters related to the development and welfare of the Jasrota constituency with LG Sinha outlining specific demands for the constituency, focusing on areas that require attention and improvement.Jasrotia emphasized the need for addressing pressing issues and implementing projects that benefit the people of Jasrota.
Jasrotia, particularly demanded connectivity to Kathua, Billawar, Basholi, Bani, and Bhaderwah with the main railway line in Kathua. This demand aligns with the Railway Minister's recent decision to lay railway tracks in the Jammu region, specifically from Kathua to Bani-Basohli-Billawar and Manwal to Bhaderwah. The proposed railway line aims to enhance transportation and boost economic growth in the region.
Jasrotia said that Nav Kathua Railway Station Nirmaan Samiti, Kathua has already prepared project for connecting Kathua, Billawar, Basholi, Bani and Bhaderwah with the main railway line in a most feasible shortest route. The five phases project will connect the Kathua town with Billawar, Udhapmur through Dhar Road, Basholi, Bani and then to the Bhaderwah town.
He said out of these five phases, pre-feasibility survey of Phase-I has already been conducted by the Ministry of Railways and found it technical feasible. The project was also recommended by the District Development Board Meeting held on 26.06.2015 under the Chairmanship of the then Chief Minister. The Phase-II of the project will connect the Kathua city railway network with the Billawer town and further to Manwal (Udhampur) railway line. This project will shorten the distance to other side of Shivaliks from 80 km to 30 Km (Kathua Town- Billawer Town) with only one tunnel of 4.45 Km in Shivaliks under the Balasundri Mata Mandir, added Jasrotia.
Jasrotia further said that this project will boost the tourist potential of the area providing the shortest possible rail link to other side of the shivaliks and will enhance the economic activity in the area. Moreover, besides benefiting large number of population of these areas besides project is also having strategic importance in terms of the security of the areas as it will provide an alternate connectivity to Udhampur-Baramulla Rail link.
He said Railway line to the other side of the Shivaliks comprising some of the most picturesque attractions like Billawar, Basholi, Bani, Baderwah & Khistwar can be possible for the Railway to approve and complete the project in a phased manner as the cost of each phase will be within the permissible limit. He urged LG Sinha to recommend project and take up the matter with the Minister for Railways, GoI for approval of the Phase-I and II in the first phase so that these beautiful and important locations can be connected with the Railway network.
Jasrotia highlighting key benefits said that railway line will enhance transportation infrastructure can stimulate economic development, creating new opportunities for local businesses and industries.The region's scenic beauty, including the Chattergala Pass and Bhaderwah's picturesque landscapes, may attract more tourists with improved connectivity.The Chattergala tunnel project, a 6.8 km long tunnel, is planned to connect Kathua and Doda via Bani, reducing travel time and enhancing regional connectivity.The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) has undertaken road development projects in the region, including the Sarthal-Chattergala road, to improve infrastructure and unlock tourism potential,added Jasrotia.
